What’s new?
Ecover laundry powders now have improved cleaning power – the formulations include a new, advanced cleaning agent based on plant products. The packaging design has also been improved.  

What is this new, advanced cleaning agent based on plant products?
After two years of research in cooperation with one of our suppliers, we have developed an advanced cleaning agent. This detergent is made from rapeseed oil (not genetically modified). Ecover is currently the only manufacturer of laundry and cleaning products that is using this advanced ingredient – anywhere in the world!  

Thanks to this detergent, we can report that the new product is even less toxic to aquatic organisms than our previous product. Another advantage is that it has a very low sudsing level. Suds interfere with the washing process, and they can cause up to 50% of the cleaning power to be lost. Conventional laundry powders contain substances such as silicones to control sudsing, but Ecover naturally prefers not to use such environmentally risky substances.  

What about the improved cleaning power?
Tests conducted according to the EU Test Protocol have shown that the new Ecover laundry powders perform just as well as the market leader and cause only minimal environmental impact.

The new formula has better cleaning power for grease stains, protein stains (milk, blood, egg, etc.), and bleachable stains (grass, wine, fruit, etc.) without any decrease in ecological value.  

How much should I use for each laundry load?
The amount per laundry load has been increased from 83ml to 115ml for water with average hardness and normally soiled laundry. The previous formulation was highly concentrated, which sometimes led to problems with feeding the laundry powder from the dispenser compartment to the drum of the washing machine. As conventional laundry powders are less concentrated, there was a risk that consumers might use an excessive amount of Ecover laundry powder, which could have undesirable consequences. For this reason, we decided to reduce the concentration of the laundry powder and optimise the feed characteristics and solubility of the laundry powder. As a result, the laundry feeds easily from the dispensing compartment into the laundry drum and it dissolves perfectly without leaving any residues.  

Based on the new ingredients and composition of the laundry powders, we have thus succeeded in producing a powerful and ecologically responsible laundry powder that we can supply to our customers in two different packages: 1.2kg (12 laundry loads) and 2.656kg (27 laundry loads).  

Is the increased dosing level less ecological?
The new laundry powders differ from the previous version in terms of composition as well as the choice of ingredients. This is why a larger amount must be used for each laundry load. However, the ingredients and composition have been chosen such that the net environmental burden per laundry load is actually lower than before.  

Why is it more expensive?
The price increase is a consequence of the composition and choice of ingredients of the new formulations.  

What about the new package design?
We’ve given the packages of Ecover laundry powders a facelift. The new package design is attractive and eye-catching in its holistic simplicity. In addition, the user instructions, claims, list of ingredients and the like have been rewritten, and the distinction between the powder for coloured laundry and the powder for white and colourfast laundry has been emphasized.
