Utopian Dream Factories...
Ecover has two eco-factories, one in Belgium and one in France. They're strategically located for the pick-up and delivery to our biggest distribution locations which are in Europe. We know this means they're pretty far from North America, but rest assured, every possible step is taken to reduce our energy consumption and environmental impact at the source. Someday, we hope to tell the story of our American eco-factories, too. In the meantime, we hope you'll enjoy learning a bit about our two cutting edge plants...
Picture this: a vast oasis of plump succulents of variegated shades and size peaking and receding like a beautiful, if strange, accordion in the sky. This is the landscape of our factory roof. And it's not a hippy-fantasy escape plan for a dull work day. All this beauty acts as insulation, keeping the inside of the factory cool in summer and warm in winter - almost mitigating entirely the need for additional heating or cooling. This intelligent engineering goes a step further by orienting the building to face east/west, utilizing sunlight to the max through cleverly aligned skylights that follow the path of the sun on its course across the sky. This detail helps cut out the need for artificial light and also fills the factory with brilliant sunshine!
We didn't stop there, however. Everything from the bricks used for the walls - made from clay, wood pulp and recycled coal fines - to the wood beams - made from European pine - are renewable materials that also ensure maximal efficiency in operation.
