Ecover's New Pioneering Laundry Products   

For almost two years Ecover’s Research & Development (R&D) lab have been working on the next generation of Ecover Laundry Products. Working in close collaboration with an ingredient supplier we have developed a pioneering new plant based ingredient that gives a better washing performance and increased benefits to the environment.

Pioneering Ingredients
Almost all cleaning products are based on surfactants. They work by lowering the surface tension of water to allow dirt to be removed more easily. Conventional cleaning products tend to be based on petrochemical surfactants which are derived from finite oil supplies and are often poorly degradable and toxic to aquatic life. At Ecover we have always favoured plant-based surfactants, which are renewable, have minimal aquatic toxicity and also biodegrade quickly and completely.  

Our new laundry formulations contain a pioneering new surfactant that has an even lower aquatic toxicity to the surfactant we were using previously. The surfactant is based on rapeseed oil (non GMO) that is grown in continental Europe and as a result means that we have been able to reduce the distance ingredients are transported.

The new surfactant is the result of almost two years of close collaboration between Ecover’s R&D department and one of our ingredient suppliers. This means that we are currently the only company in the world to be using this new ingredient.  

We have also undertaken extensive consumer research into our customers' product preferences. In response to your feedback we have introduced a New Integrated Non Biological Washing powder which includes a natural fragrance and integrated Laundry Bleach to our range. We understand that some of our customers will still want to purchase a non-fragranced product so we are still producing a Non Bio powder without a fragrance or added Laundry Bleach, which has also been upgraded to include our new pioneering surfactant.
