A large number of our Belgian employees live near the factory and cycle to work. Ecover pioneered the cycling allowance in Belgium.  

Employees who live further away or who cannot use a bicycle for other reasons, can still make use of car pooling, which also receives financial support. At Ecover, not only the driver but all the passengers in a car pool receive an allowance.

Some employees have a company car, within the context of their job. In the past, we always opted for cars that scored high on safety, reliability and low fuel consumption. When hybrid vehicles became available, Ecover immediately picked up on them. Ecover now uses mainly Toyota Prius cars.

This car has a dramatically reduced environmental impact. The revolutionary Prius is a hybrid vehicle that combines a petrol engine with an electric motor. It consumes only half as much fuel as a conventional car and produces only one-tenth as much exhaust. The Prius uses intelligent computer software to control the combination of an electric motor and a petrol engine, with the power source being selected according to the circumstances. For instance, the Prius uses only electrical energy for starting off and travelling at low speeds. At high speeds, the petrol engine provides power and recharges the batteries. External recharging is not necessary.
