Which fragrances does Ecover use in its products?

Ecover has a very strict policy on selecting its fragrances. We only use 100% plant fragrances based on essential oils. This means they are free from harmful petrochemical fragrance components such as musk, musk derivatives and nitro-derivatives that are found in all common detergents. These remain on the fabric for a long time, causing an increased risk of skin irritation and allergies.
Moreover, these petrochemical fragrance components are poorly degradable, so they accumulate in the food chain. They are e.g. found in the fat tissue of fish for example. Because other animals and even people eat these fish, these harmful components end up in our food chain. Research has shown that synthetic fragrances have a disruptive effect on the behaviour of fish and on the life cycle of insects, even after they have been diluted. No wonder the use of these musk components has been excluded in legislation on cosmetics.
